Armor arts discussion, the old days
I have been around for a while, and owns several sets of elite armors, but yesterday I looked back on my warrior who is wearing 15K charr hides, and started missing the original designs of ring mails, chain mails and Ascalon armors, they are so much more practical, sensible and fitting to the theme. I understand those old armors are not fancy, not glittering and do not have gold engravings on them, but the preserved taste of genuine and practical culture is what I really appreciates. The new fancy shiny armors are too...Korean-grinder-like.
Mesmer courtly is imo the most beautiful 1.5k set.
I think I am going to revert some of my characters back to the old armors.
Your thoughts?

Ah nostalgia, so good.
Everyonce in a while I dig in my mules and pull out old armors and wear them.
A week ago I cleared the charr lands missions and some quests with my warrior and I was using my old 15k gladiator and rusty fow helmet using some of my old axes that I rarely use these days.
So you are not the only one.

I like the variety, being able to choose between more realistic and practical and the more "fancy & glittering" armours in Guild Wars...

Me, I'd like to see some monk headgear that can actually be seen on someone with a full head of hair...

OMG I thought I was alone! I have had Ranger Krytan on my main forever, even with all the other 'elite' armors I could purchase my Krytan armor has too many memories attached to it to wear anything else. Spikes and flashy colors and stuff doesn't look right, Krytan armor looks like practical ranger armor.

For me it is quite simple all of my characters are made in the Prophecies game, so they all have the orginal armors...
And even on the few characters that I have now running through the other expansions, they all are sticking with the old armor... (Presonally I think most of the new armors are just ridiculus... too many spkies, poor pattern design, or are just plan out bulky looking)... But I also think some of the old armors are complete junk (FOW mainly, looks good only on the monk and ranger class...
But in all honesty my ranger is the only character that I have switched to a new armor as her primary (Norn 15k), and that is because all the other ranger armors are kinda dull or are on the opposite side of the spectrum and are to ugly...
But when it comes down to it all I choose my armors based upon what I think suits my character the best (which for the moment is almost all original gear for my characters)

I love the original default color of ranger krytan armor, the earthy tones matched my ranger's skin perfectly, plus it was very ranger-ish ^_^

I agree, lots of the old armors are better than some of the new ones. Now granted there are lots of new armors I like, for instance mesmer Asuran armor. But it's just a reskin of a core armor (courtly). And my rangers all have core armors (15k or 1.5k druid, and my main also has 15k studded leather). My necromancer has cabal and my warrior has elite gladiator. Yes some core armor to me is ugly and some new is better, but I see where you're coming from. I do like a lot of the core armors.

I've always liked Tyrian Necro armor (male) best. It's not too elaborate, but has a smooth, regal look.
The only Elite I like nearly as much would be Cultist.

I seem to be heading back to Tyria more and more for my armour.
I went to the trouble of going from LA to SC, completing all the ascension missions, Glint etc and then fighting my way up to the Granite Citadel to get my Elonian necro a set of 15K Bonelace (and yes I find it hard to remember all the new names for Prophecies armour) despite the fact that she already has Elite Sunspear.
My (Tyrian) ele has never had any 15K pieces from Tyria (she's got plenty of the other campaigns), but when I managed to farm 250 destroyer cores for those gauntlets I found they looked rubbish with almost all of her armour. So she has just recently got her first piece of Tyrian ascended armour.
Prophecies has some great armours. Rangers seem to come off particularly well, and the Labyrinthine set makes me want to take my little monk mule there.

Most of the new Norn armors are pretty sweet, looking... Especially the warrior and the rangers...
I cant reall say that for the dwarf or asuran armors, but then again I really wasnt looking... (Besides maybe the dwarf gauntlets)

Once upon a time I wore silver Wyvern, and thought it was the leetest armor ever.
I still like the Elementalist's Hydromancer set, Warrior Chainmail and the female Necro Fanatic set.

I'll post it when I get home, if I can find it

I used to have normal glads on my warrior for ages, until I decided to get him some 15K. Was nice armour, but I'm happy with what I've got.
Most of my characters have moved on from 1.5, tho some are quite nice

There is still something special about Tyrian elite armours..... I still play most of the time in 15k Tormentors, 15k Druids, 15k Glads and 15k Aeromancers (or their modern day names) with my core characters. Their foreign armour is gorgeous, but it doesn't feel like their 'default' look.
There's even something nice about taking a foreign character over and getting the elite Tyrian look- my boyfriend recently took his female Elonan ele back to get Hydromancers and she looks a zillion times better than she did in her 'dance of the 7 veils' get-up. I guess it still feels like an achievement too, because elite armour previously took a lot of play to reach, whereas some of them are now more accessible. I'm not lamenting this, just giving a reason for why Tyrian still feels great to buy.
